A trip to Bali isn't complete without visiting its neighboring island, Nusa Penida. The latter is a laidback, tropical escape from the hustle and bustle of some of Bali's most popular areas. Nusa Penida offers postcard worthy views—turquoise waters, lush green hills, and white sand beaches make up the island.
My friends and I had one day to explore Nusa Penida. Here is our guide to help you plan a day trip from Bali:
Getting to Nusa Penida
While it may be slightly cheaper to plan a trip to Nusa Penida on your own, we found it simpler to book a private tour. We arranged a tour with Nusa Penida Experience, which I highly recommend. The price was Rp 800,000 per person. Other tours that I found were similar in price and package. Our tour included:
• Pick up and drop off at our hotel
• Roundtrip boat ride
• Private driver and guide on the island
• Lunch
Tip: Be prepared for bumpy roads with deep potholes. If you're thinking about renting a motorbike on the island, consider that the roads can get pretty dangerous.
Things to do in Nusa Penida
• Angel's Billabong: Angel's Billabong boasts a natural infinity pool that overlooks the Indian Ocean.
• Broken Beach: Located a 5-minute walk from Angel's Billabong is Broken Beach—one of Nusa Penida's most popular spots, known for its natural arch and turquoise waters.
• Kelingking Cliff: Kelingking Cliff is jaw-droppingly beautiful. Perhaps the most photographed spot on the island, Kelingking Cliff is known for its T-Rex shaped cliff surrounded by turquoise waters.
• Crystal Bay: Crystal Bay Beach is a white sand beach surrounded by palm trees.
Tips
• Arrive early to avoid crowds: Nusa Penida has become increasingly popular over the years, making large crowds inevitable. Arrive early or even later in the day to beat the crowds.
